Internet is freedom?

It's funny how people think Internet is the ultimate weapon for freedom of speech. You can write anything you want and everybody can read it.

I just don't see it that way entirely. Everybody can't get to Internet and everybody can't write what ever they feel like. I can but not everyone.

First. Internet is not free. I pay 10 euros a month from this connection to the world. So there is a price for my freedom of speech. Everybody in the world can't afford that.

Certain authorities can block entire servers if they have some illegal content inside of them. Think of child porn for example. Some server is 99.9% full of legal stuff but it's closed because it has illegal content. Who is responsible of this data. The owner of the server? I don't like the idea that it's this fault. That would mean he has to control everything that goes in to his server. There it is again the scary word 'control'.

So how free is Internet if police can block sites in some countries (China, Thailand, Finland) ban use of certain search terms and entire sites or even the whole Internet connection(Burma)?

Freedom is a system/idea that nobody controls. Well at least to me.
